A portable ice maker is a great addition to any home. Portable ice makers can ensure that you have enough ice for any situation, be it birthday parties, graduation parties, picnics, camping, or other outings. Once you have purchased and began using and enjoying your machine, you will want to make sure that you take good care of it. Portable ice makers are an important investment and you will want to ensure that yours lasts as long as possible.

The best way to maintain and care for your portable ice maker is to clean it regularly. If portable ice makers are not kept clean, you will notice that the ice does not taste as clean and fresh as when it was new. To make sure your ice maker keeps producing the cleanest and best-tasting ice cubes, you will need to clean your appliance regularly. Here are a few basic steps for cleaning out a portable ice maker.

To prepare, you will need to make sure you have vinegar, a soft cloth, and a towel. You may want to sanitize your kitchen counter before cleaning your portable ice maker.

First, you need to remove any ice that remains in the ice maker. Empty the portable ice maker out completely. Next, unplug the ice maker and move it away from the electric outlet. The next step is to remove the ice tray from the machine. Take it out and set it on a clean surface. For most models, you can simply remove the tray by lifting it out or unhooking it from the water container without needing to use tools.

Next, you need to prepare to clean the interior of the portable ice maker and the ice tray by first pouring 3 to 4 tablespoons of vinegar on a soft, dry cloth. Once the cloth is damp with the vinegar, use it to scrub the interior walls of the portable ice maker. Make sure to scrub each surface thoroughly and to remove any debris that you encounter. Next, scrub the ice tray that you removed with the cloth, again making sure you cover every surface carefully.

After using the vinegar to clean the interior walls and ice tray of the portable ice maker, you will want to rinse these surfaces with warm water. After the vinegar has been washed off, use a clean, dry towel to wipe off the inside and the ice tray to remove the water. Make sure all surfaces are completely dry before putting the device back together.

When the entire machine is dry, replace the ice tray back inside the portable ice maker. You are not quite done yet-the inside is clean and ready, but to keep your ice maker looking its best, scrub the exterior with a cloth and warm water. There is no need to use vinegar on the outside.

Now you are ready to plug the ice maker back in and start making ice again. As you take the time to clean and care for your ice maker, you will find that it will last longer and continue to produce clean, fresh-tasting ice.
